Dollywood is a theme park jointly owned by entertainer Dolly Parton and Herschend Family Entertainment. It is located in the Knoxville-Smoky Mountains metroplex in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Check out this year’s Dollywood theme park map to plan your visit!

Hosting nearly 3 million guests in a typical season from mid-March to the Christmas holidays, Dollywood is the biggest ticketed tourist attraction in Tennessee. It has won many international awards and is considered one of the best amusement parks in America.

In addition to standard amusement park thrill rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountain area.

The park hosts a number of concerts and musical events each year, including appearances by Dolly Parton and her family as well as other national and local musical acts. It was also the site of the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame.

The theme park is the anchor of Parton’s 150-acre Dollywood amusement destination, which also includes the 35-acre sister water park Dollywood’s Splash Country, the 20-acre Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa, and the 5-acre Dolly Parton’s Stampede Dinner Attraction.

*Dollywood, as it is known today, opened on May 3, 1986. However, the site has a longer history as a theme park, originally opening as Rebel Railroad in 1961 and undergoing several name changes and transformations before becoming Dollywood.

In 2025, Dollywood introduced several key updates across the park. The new Wilderness Pass Restaurant opened, seating 400 guests and replacing the former Plaza and River Battle area, with a menu featuring smoked meats and rotisserie chicken. Country Fair was refreshed with new facades, expanded seating, and a splash pad replacing the former games. Additional changes included a new anniversary stage show, drone and fireworks spectacular, the renaming of Heartsong Theater to Imagination Playhouse, and an expanded parking lot with 700 new spaces.

Dollywood Christmas Map 2024

For the 2024 Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas, the festival introduced the new nighttime drone show “Joy,” staged above the Wildwood Grove section of the park. This season also marked the first Christmas operation of the Dolly Parton Experience attraction complex. In addition, the reimagined Lightning Rod roller coaster, updated with a high-speed chain lift and full I-Box track replacement, operated during the Christmas event for the first time, offering a redesigned version of the ride for holiday visitors.

In 2024, Dollywood opened The Dolly Parton Experience, a large interactive attraction complex that replaced the former Chasing Rainbows Museum, which permanently closed. The surrounding area of the park was reimagined and officially renamed Songteller to accompany the new experience. Additionally, the Lightning Rod roller coaster reopened with a major redesign, replacing its original launch system with a high-speed chain lift to provide a different ride operation for guests beginning with the 2024 season.

Dollywood Map 2023

In 2023, Dollywood introduced Big Bear Mountain, the park’s longest roller coaster at 3,990 feet, which officially opened in the spring. That fall, the company expanded its resort offerings with the debut of the 302-room HeartSong Lodge & Resort located beside the existing DreamMore Resort and Spa. As part of the new resort, Ember & Elm, a full-service restaurant, and Songbird Market were added as primary dining options for overnight guests.

In 2022, Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa underwent its largest expansion since opening, adding a new guest wing that featured spacious family suites along with a new celebrity suite. The expansion also introduced an expansive new swimming pool, providing an additional recreational amenity for overnight visitors. These additions marked the most substantial development at the resort since its 2015 debut, increasing both lodging capacity and leisure facilities available to guests during their stays.

In 2020, Dollywood’s Splash Country introduced TailSpin Racer, a multi-lane mat racing water slide added as part of the park’s 20th season celebration. This new attraction replaced the original Slick Rock Racer, a four-lane mat slide that had operated since the waterpark’s 2001 debut. The change marked a significant update to Splash Country’s slide lineup, with the removal of one of its opening-day attractions and the installation of a newly designed multi-lane racing experience.

In 2019, Dollywood debuted Wildwood Grove, the largest expansion in the park’s history, adding 11 new experiences. The land featured the Dragonflier, a suspended family roller coaster designed to simulate the movement of a dragonfly. At its center, the 55-foot Wildwood Tree served as a new focal point with a nighttime show. The expansion also introduced Till & Harvest, a Mexican-inspired dining venue, providing both attractions and amenities within the newly developed area.

In 2017, Dollywood introduced two new attractions in the Timber Canyon area: Drop Line, a 200-foot free-fall tower, and Whistle Punk Chaser, a junior family roller coaster. At the same time, the park permanently closed the River Battle interactive water ride located in Owen’s Farm, clearing space for a future development. These changes marked both the addition of new thrill and family-friendly attractions and the removal of a previous water-based interactive experience.

In 2016, Dollywood opened Lightning Rod, a $22 million wooden roller coaster that became both the world’s first launched wooden coaster and the fastest of its kind. The attraction served as the park’s headline addition for the season, introducing a unique launch system combined with wooden track design. Lightning Rod significantly expanded the park’s ride lineup by combining high-speed thrills with an innovative approach to traditional wooden coaster construction.

In 2015, Dollywood expanded its offerings with the debut of DreamMore Resort, the first on-site hotel developed for the property, which officially opened to guests in July. The resort provided a significant addition to Dollywood’s lodging options, featuring numerous amenities for overnight visitors. As part of the opening, Song & Hearth, a full-service Southern-style family restaurant, began operations as the primary dining venue within the new resort, serving as a central feature of the guest experience.

In 2014, Dollywood introduced FireChaser Express, the first dual-launch family roller coaster in the United States, which became the park’s headline addition. The new coaster was constructed on the former site of Adventure Mountain, a ropes course attraction that had permanently closed the previous season to make room for the development. These changes represented a shift in the park’s attraction lineup with the removal of Adventure Mountain and the addition of a major family-focused coaster.

In 2011, Dollywood opened the Barnstormer, a $5.5 million Screamin’ Swing-style family thrill ride located in the Owens Farm area, offering a new high-soaring attraction for guests. To make way for this addition, the park permanently closed and removed the Dreamland Forest children’s play area, which had operated near the Dollywood Express since 1990. These updates introduced a major new ride while simultaneously retiring a long-standing family area from the park’s lineup.

In 2010, Dollywood marked its 25th anniversary with the debut of Adventure Mountain, the largest addition in park history, featuring a multi-level ropes course attraction. The venue was reintroduced as the Wings of America Theater, which became the new home for the Birds of Prey show, continuing entertainment offerings in a renamed setting.

In 2008, Dollywood opened the Wilderness Pass themed area, designed to connect two existing sections of the park while introducing new attractions. The centerpiece of this expansion was River Battle, a $5 million interactive boat ride where passengers and onlookers used water soaker guns during the excursion. The new area also became the home for the park’s Wings of America show, relocating the popular entertainment offering into the recently developed Wilderness Pass section for the season.

In 2007, Dollywood introduced Mystery Mine, a $17.5 million Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter steel roller coaster located in the Timber Canyon area. The attraction was themed around an abandoned coal mine and represented the single largest capital investment in the park’s 21-year history. Mystery Mine featured multiple vertical drops, inversions, and dark ride sections, combining heavily themed storytelling elements with a high-thrill coaster experience to serve as the headline addition for Dollywood’s 2007 operating season.

In 2006, Dollywood added Timber Tower, a $6.5 million attraction located in the Timber Canyon section. The ride was the first and only Topple Tower installation in North America, lifting passengers 60 feet into the air before spiraling them at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. Timber Tower expanded the park’s lineup of thrill rides and became the signature new addition for Dollywood’s 2006 operating season, adding a distinctive flat ride experience to the park.

In 2005, Dollywood celebrated its 20th anniversary with the debut of The Country Fair, a new themed area featuring ten family rides, including the Dizzy Disk spinning ride and the Shooting Star family drop tower. To make room for this expansion, the classic Swingamajig ride, which had operated since 1986, was permanently removed. At Dollywood’s Splash Country, the Bear Mountain Fire Tower, a multi-level interactive water play structure, was introduced as the waterpark’s headline addition for the season.

In 2004, Dollywood introduced Timber Canyon, a newly developed themed area of the park highlighted by the debut of Thunderhead, a $7 million wooden roller coaster reaching speeds of 55 miles per hour. Serving as the anchor attraction for the land, Thunderhead became the centerpiece of the expansion. At the same time, the Smoky Mountain Wilderness Adventure, a dark ride that had operated since 1998, was permanently closed following the conclusion of the 2003 operating season.

In 2002, Dollywood opened the Chasing Rainbows Museum, a multi-million dollar interactive attraction located in the Adventures in Imagination area. The museum highlighted Dolly Parton’s career from her early life in the Smoky Mountains through major milestones such as the Academy Awards. To make way for this addition, the original Rags to Riches Museum, which had operated since 1997, was permanently closed at the end of the 2001 season and replaced by the new expanded facility.
