Years Active: 1990 – Active

Universal Studios Florida (Universal Studios or USF) is a theme park in Orlando, Florida. Primarily themed to movies, television, and other aspects of the entertainment industry, the park opened to the public on June 7, 1990, and remains one of the best theme parks in Florida!. Universal Studios Florida is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 amusement parks in the US, and for good reason!

This page is an archive of Universal Studios Florida maps and brochures dating back to 1990. I’m proud to say that we are the only place in the world that describes changes in the official Universal Studios Orlando map changes from year to year. But first, let’s look at some USF history and fun facts…

Universal Studios Florida History

Universal Studios Orlando is owned and operated by NBC Universal and features numerous rides, attractions, and live shows. Universal Studios Florida was the first component of the larger Universal Orlando Resort to open, ranking eleventh in the world and sixth in North America for attendance among amusement parks in 2019 while hosting approximately 10.9 million visitors.

In addition to the theme park aspect, early design focused on providing guests with a behind-the-scenes look at film and television.

A significant portion of the park operated as an active production studio. As producers and filmmakers showed no interest in filming onsite in Orlando, Universal’s approach evolved, transitioning to a first-person perspective for its heavily themed rides, areas, and attractions.

The resort eventually expanded by introducing two additional theme parks, Universal’s Islands of Adventure in 1999 and Volcano Bay in 2017, as well as the restaurant and retail epicenter Universal CityWalk, which also opened in 1999.

Is 1 day enough for Universal Studios Florida?

One day at Universal Studios Florida can provide a fulfilling experience, but it may not be sufficient to explore all the attractions and offerings at the park fully. The park boasts many rides, shows, and entertainment options, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, thrilling roller coasters, and immersive experiences. Visitors with limited time should plan their itinerary carefully, prioritize must-see attractions, and consider purchasing express passes to maximize their experience. However, to fully appreciate everything the park offers without feeling rushed, extending the visit to two days is advisable for a more comprehensive experience.

Is it worth it to go to Universal Studios Florida?

A visit to Universal Studios Florida can be worth it for individuals who are fans of popular movie franchises, enjoy immersive theme park experiences, and seek thrilling rides and entertainment. The park offers a unique opportunity to step into the world of beloved films and characters, such as Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and The Simpsons. While ticket prices and additional costs can be substantial, the diverse range of attractions, high-quality entertainment, and immersive theming make it a worthwhile destination for many visitors, especially those interested in pop culture and cinematic adventures.

Is 2 days enough for Universal Studios Orlando?

Two days at Universal Studios Orlando allow visitors to explore both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure more thoroughly, providing ample time to experience most attractions and entertainment options. This duration permits a more relaxed and comprehensive visit, allowing guests to enjoy popular attractions multiple times, explore themed areas, and immerse themselves fully in the magic of both parks. However, extending the visit to three or more days might be preferable for those seeking to experience every ride, show, and detail thoroughly. Ultimately, the decision should be based on individual preferences and priorities for an optimal and fulfilling experience.

Both maps show the park divided into five main areas: Hollywood, New York, San Francisco/Amity, the Expo Center, and the Front Lot. However, there are some key differences between the two maps.

This new land houses several attractions based on behind-the-scenes moviemaking, such as a studio tour and a prop exhibit.
  • New attractions: Several new attractions were added in 1992, including:

Additional notes:

  • The 1991 map shows a proposed expansion to the north of the park, which likely became the basis for the Production Central land added in 1992.
