Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum Map and Brochure (2014 – 2023)

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Years Active: 1963 – Active

The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum in Sioux Falls isn’t your average animal park. It’s focused on the wildlife of the Great Plains – a unique angle you won’t find in most zoos. Since 1963, they’ve been teaching visitors about conservation on their 45-acre sprawl. Tigers, leopards, cool butterflies, even an aquarium…it’s packed.

The Delbridge Museum is part of the zoo. Fossils, taxidermy – all about the natural history of the region. A hidden gem!

This place keeps getting better. Regular events, festivals… crowds are growing. They’ve even got expansion plans in the works. But here’s the thing: it might not be the most polished experience. Don’t expect big-city zoo perfection. What you WILL get is a down-to-earth, educational look at the wildlife of the American heartland.

Why did Delbridge Museum close?

The Delbridge Museum closed due to financial difficulties and a decline in visitor attendance. The museum faced challenges in sustaining its operations and maintaining its collections, leading to the unfortunate decision to cease its operations. This closure marked the end of an era for the museum, which had previously showcased a diverse range of exhibits and artifacts to the public.

Who owns the Great Plains Zoo?

The Great Plains Zoo is owned and operated by the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and education of wildlife. This organization is responsible for the management, funding, and development of the zoo, which is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Great Plains Zoo serves as a vital educational and recreational resource for the community, featuring a variety of animals and educational programs.
