In 2025, Denver Zoo introduced a new state-of-the-art California sea lion habitat, welcoming back Luci, Ady, Gunnison, and Maverick. The zoo also implemented sustainability-focused upgrades to the sea lion exhibit. However, it announced the transfer of its last Nile hippopotamus, Mahali, to a Texas preserve in fall 2025, marking the end of hippos at the zoo.
