Turtle Back Zoo Map and Brochure (2025 – 2013)
Location: West Orange, New Jersey
Years Active: 1963 – Active
Turtle Back Zoo is a real throwback. It’s got the animals, but everything else is delightfully unpredictable. You might catch the lions napping, or get front-row seats to a roaring match. That’s part of the fun.
They’ve got the zoo classics – big cats, giraffes, grumpy reptiles. Don’t miss the sea lions, they put on a good show. The carousel is straight-up vintage, and the food… well, pack a lunch.
This place isn’t fancy. No bells and whistles. But Turtle Back Zoo has a down-to-earth honesty the big zoos lack. They care about the animals, and that counts for a lot.
