Universal Orlando Resort, commonly known as Universal Orlando or simply Universal, formerly Universal Studios Escape, is an American theme park and entertainment resort complex based in Orlando, Florida. The resort is operated by Universal Parks & Resorts, a division of Comcast’s NBCUniversal.
This page is an archive of Universal Orlando maps and brochures dating back to 2001. I’m happy to say that we are the only place in the world that documents the changes in the official Universal Orlando map changes from year to year. Universal Orlando History
Universal Orlando is the second-largest resort in Greater Orlando, after nearby Walt Disney World Resort. Universal Orlando covers 541 acres of land.
Universal Orlando consists of two theme parks (Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure), an on-site waterpark (Volcano Bay), an on-site entertainment district (Universal CityWalk).

All of the hotel resorts offer Early Park Admission into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Universal’s Volcano Bay.
Additionally, the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort offer free unlimited Universal Express Pass for use at participating Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure attractions. Similar products are valid at Volcano Bay, Halloween Horror Nights, and Rock the Universe.
Universal Orlando is one of the most visited resorts in the world, with an annual attendance of 21 million in 2017. Universal Orlando is the flagship resort of Universal Parks & Resorts, largely due to the competitive nature between the resort and Walt Disney World, which is only 15 miles away.

In 2024, Universal Orlando Resort introduced several major additions. Universal Studios Florida opened DreamWorks Land on June 14, along with the nighttime lagoon show CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular. On July 3, the park debuted its largest daytime parade, Universal Mega Movie Parade. Islands of Adventure added the Hogwarts Always projection show in Hogsmeade. Other changes included the removal of Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl, the debut of Sing It! and Curious George play area, and Volcano Bay’s new raft ride Te Waka Wai.

In 2023, Universal Orlando Resort saw major transitions across its parks. Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone at Universal Studios Florida permanently closed in January, followed by the closure of Poseidon’s Fury at Islands of Adventure in May. That summer, Cafe La Bamba reopened at Universal Studios Florida as a dedicated Annual Passholder lounge. The most significant debut came in August, when the resort officially opened Minion Land on Illumination Avenue, highlighted by the new interactive attraction Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast.

In 2022, Universal Orlando Resort experienced several notable closures. Shrek 4-D at Universal Studios Florida permanently ended its run in January after 18 years of operation. That same month, Revenge of the Mummy closed for an extended refurbishment, with a planned reopening later in the year. Additionally, Universal’s Superstar Parade at Universal Studios Florida concluded with its final performance in June, marking another permanent removal from the park’s entertainment lineup.

In 2021, Universal Orlando Resort introduced and retired key attractions. On June 10, the Jurassic World VelociCoaster officially opened at Islands of Adventure, adding a major new roller coaster to the park’s lineup. Later in the year, on November 1, Fear Factor Live at Universal Studios Florida permanently closed, marking the end of the long-running stunt show and freeing space for future development within the park.

In 2020, Universal Orlando Resort saw both closures and new additions. On March 16, A Day in the Park with Barney at Universal Studios Florida permanently closed. The resort began a phased reopening of its theme parks on June 5 following a temporary closure. That summer, The Bourne Stuntacular, a new live-action stunt show, officially opened at Universal Studios Florida. Later in the year, on December 15, the Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn and Suites welcomed its first guests.

In 2019, Universal Orlando Resort introduced several significant additions and updates. At Universal Studios Florida, the TODAY Cafe opened in May as a new dining venue. The same summer, Islands of Adventure debuted Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, a major new roller coaster within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. On June 27, Universal’s Endless Summer Resort – Surfside Inn and Suites, the first Value category hotel, opened. Later in September, CityWalk’s movie theater was renovated and renamed Universal Cinemark.

In 2018, Universal Orlando Resort added multiple new experiences and expansions. At Universal Studios Florida, Fast & Furious – Supercharged officially opened in April, followed by the debut of the nighttime lagoon show, Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration, in July. CityWalk introduced the popular Voodoo Doughnut shop in May. Later in August, the resort expanded its hotel offerings with the opening of Universal’s Aventura Hotel, a new prime value property and the sixth overall hotel at the destination.

In 2017, Universal Orlando Resort underwent major transformations. Universal Studios Florida opened the 3D ride Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon in April, while also permanently closing the long-running Terminator 2: 3-D show in October. The resort expanded with its third theme park, Volcano Bay, debuting in May with headline attractions including the Krakatau Aqua Coaster and Ko’okiri Body Plunge. Additionally, Islands of Adventure closed the Dragon Challenge roller coaster in September, marking the end of another long-standing ride.

In 2016, Universal Orlando Resort saw major additions and closures. At Universal Studios Florida, Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue held its final performance in January. Islands of Adventure debuted Skull Island: Reign of Kong in July and reopened The Incredible Hulk Coaster after a year-long refurbishment in August. The resort expanded with the opening of Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, its fifth on-site hotel, and CityWalk introduced a new full-service dining venue, The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen.

In 2015, Universal Orlando Resort saw multiple closures and transitions. At Universal Studios Florida, Lucy: A Tribute closed in August, followed shortly by the permanent closure of Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride on September 8 and Twister…Ride It Out on November 2. Meanwhile, at Islands of Adventure, The Incredible Hulk Coaster closed in September for a major refurbishment. Universal CityWalk also retired NBA City restaurant and experience, which permanently shut its doors in August.
Universal Orlando Resort Map 2014
In 2014, Universal Orlando Resort introduced several landmark additions. On March 31, Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort officially opened as the resort’s fourth on-site hotel. That summer, Universal Studios Florida debuted The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, featuring the headline attraction Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Complementing the new land, the Hogwarts Express train attraction began service, linking Diagon Alley with Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure to create a multi-park Harry Potter experience.

In 2013, Universal Orlando Resort introduced major additions at Universal Studios Florida. On June 20, the 3D dark ride Transformers: The Ride – 3D officially opened. The park also completed the immersive Springfield U.S.A. land, themed to The Simpsons, which included new dining such as Krusty Burger, the spinner ride Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl, and other themed experiences.

In 2012, Universal Orlando Resort saw significant changes and additions. On January 2, the classic JAWS attraction and the Amity area permanently closed at Universal Studios Florida. New entertainment debuted in May, including Universal’s Superstar Parade and the nighttime lagoon show, Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular. That summer, the motion simulator attraction Despicable Me Minion Mayhem officially opened at Universal Studios Florida. Additionally, CityWalk expanded with the opening of Hollywood Drive-In Golf, a 36-hole miniature golf course.

In 2011, Universal Orlando Resort saw the closure of a long-running attraction. On August 18, Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast, the simulator ride at Universal Studios Florida, permanently closed to the public. This marked the end of the attraction’s operation as the park prepared the location for future development.
Universal Orlando Resort Map 2010
In 2010, Universal Orlando Resort marked a milestone with the June 18 grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. The land introduced the headline attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey inside Hogwarts Castle. Two existing coasters were re-themed to fit the new area: Dueling Dragons became Dragon Challenge, and The Flying Unicorn was rethemed as Flight of the Hippogriff, completing the debut of the immersive Harry Potter experience.

In 2009, Universal Orlando Resort introduced and removed key elements. On August 19, Universal Studios Florida debuted Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, the park’s tallest and fastest roller coaster at the time. Meanwhile, at Islands of Adventure, the Enchanted Oak Tavern and the Merlinwood section of the Lost Continent were removed to prepare for future development, though the Dueling Dragons roller coaster continued to operate during the transition.

In 2008, Universal Orlando Resort introduced new attractions and rebranded an existing one. On January 17, Universal Studios Florida reopened its former Earthquake attraction as Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride, featuring an updated storyline and interactive elements. Later that year, on May 15, the park debuted The Simpsons Ride, the world’s first attraction based on the animated series, expanding the park’s lineup with a new motion simulator experience themed to Springfield.

In 2007, Universal Orlando Resort retired two long-standing attractions at Universal Studios Florida. On March 30, the simulator ride Back to the Future: The Ride permanently closed after years of operation. Later in the year, the Earthquake: The Big One attraction also shut down to undergo a major re-theming and redevelopment into Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride, which would debut the following year with a refreshed storyline and interactive elements.

In 2006, Universal Orlando Resort introduced a long-delayed attraction at Islands of Adventure. On June 22, The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride officially opened to the public in Seuss Landing. Originally constructed with the park in 1999 but never previously operated, the family-friendly trolley ride finally debuted, adding a new experience to the Dr. Seuss–themed area and expanding the park’s lineup of attractions.

In 2005, Universal Orlando Resort introduced a major new attraction at Universal Studios Florida with the debut of Fear Factor Live. The stunt show, based on the popular television series, officially opened on June 3 with a grand event attended by more than 2,000 guests and dozens of celebrity alumni from the show.

In 2004, Universal Orlando Resort introduced a major new ride at Universal Studios Florida with the debut of Revenge of the Mummy. The indoor roller coaster, themed to The Mummy film franchise, officially opened on May 21. The grand opening event featured stars from The Mummy and The Mummy Returns films, highlighting the attraction’s significance as the park’s primary addition for the year.

In 2003, Universal Orlando Resort saw significant transitions at Universal Studios Florida. The Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies attraction closed on January 3, while the long-running Wild, Wild, Wild West Stunt Show ended its run on September 1. New experiences debuted, including Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast in the spring, replacing The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, and Shrek 4-D, which officially opened June 12, bringing a new film-based adventure to guests.
