Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Map and Brochure (2017 – 2024)
Location: Galveston, Texas
Years Active: 2006 – Active
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island is a Texas summer tradition. But it’s not perfect. Expect crowds, especially on weekends, and be prepared for long waits on popular rides. Still, there’s nothing quite like blasting uphill on the Master Blaster water coaster or floating in the massive Shipwreck Harbor wave pool.
The park’s seaside theme is charming, but it can get a bit worn around the edges. Schlitterbahn knows its stuff with water rides though! The Torrent River is a wild ride, but for a true adrenaline rush, nothing beats the drops on the speed slides. Want to avoid lines? Hit those speed slides first thing in the morning or during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Leave bulky towels at home! You can rent them inside, and it saves hassle with lockers.
Kids will love Tiki Tikes, but parents, bring earplugs. It’s a loud, colorful splash zone! Schlitterbahn hosts fun festivals throughout the year, a great reason for a repeat visit.
What happened to Schlitterbahn in Texas?
Schlitterbahn, the waterpark located in Texas, faced legal troubles in recent years. In 2016, a tragic accident occurred on one of its rides, the Verrückt water slide, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old boy. Subsequent investigations revealed negligence and design flaws in the ride. In 2019, the park’s co-owner was arrested and charged with murder related to the incident. As a result, Schlitterbahn filed for bankruptcy and sold its Galveston and New Braunfels properties, with Cedar Fair Entertainment Company acquiring the Galveston location.
How long has Schlitterbahn been in Galveston?
Schlitterbahn Galveston opened its doors to the public in 2006. It operated for approximately 13 years under the Schlitterbahn brand before being sold to Cedar Fair Entertainment Company in 2019.
