Scovill Zoo Map and Brochure (2018 – 2025)
Location: Decatur, Illinois
Years Active: 1967 – Active
Scovill Zoo ain’t the biggest, but it’s got heart. It’s been around since ’67, and you can feel the history and the love for animals. Calling itself “Bringing the World to Decatur” is a bit cheesy, but they’ve got some surprising animals for a small-town zoo.
Lions, meerkats, the usual crowd-pleasers? Sure. But check out their rainforest exhibit – loud, colorful, you might even get splashed by a fish! Want something weirder? They’ve got these huge anteaters…noses longer than your arm!
Don’t go on a weekend if you hate crowds. And if you’re into photography, go right at opening – animals are most active when they’re hungry. Some areas of the zoo are showing their age… but hey, gives it character, right? If you’re expecting something fancy, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want an honest-to-goodness day out with some cool critters, Scovill Zoo delivers.
