Years Active: 1936 – Active

The Staten Island Zoo isn’t flashy. It’s small, but it’s been a local favorite for generations. They’ve got a cool mix of animals – weird ones, cute ones, ones you won’t see anywhere else nearby. It’s the kind of place where you can wander the paths and relax – a nice change from the city hustle.

Look for the red pandas. They have this outdoor enclosure with trees they love to climb, but they’re sometimes snoozing in the branches. Keep an eye out!

Stroll the African Savannah exhibit – sometimes the animals come right up close. For a small fee, you can even feed the giraffes! Feeling brave? Their reptile collection is awesome, but definitely not for the squeamish.

Want a break? Grab a bite at the snack stand. Their prices are surprisingly decent for a zoo.
