Kennywood Map 2025

In 2025, Kennywood introduced Kennywood Junction, replacing Thomas Town, with five re-themed rides, a celebration room, and a new retail store themed to Pittsburgh’s railway history. The Steel Curtain roller coaster reopened on May 24 after structural modifications, while the Kangaroo ride also returned with upgraded lighting and systems.

Additional updates included the debut of a new haunted house, Detached, for Phantom Fall Fest, as well as the opening of new dining venues Jeeters’ Pub and Carousel Burger Co.

Kennywood Map 2024

In 2024, Kennywood introduced several major changes. The Steel Curtain roller coaster closed for the entire season to undergo an extensive modification project. The Gran Prix bumper cars were re-themed and reopened as Potato Smash.

The Turtle ride, the last of its kind, returned to operation after restoration, and the Aero 360 pendulum ride rejoined the lineup with refreshed paint and updated controls. New additions included Jeeters’ Pub, created with Penn Brewery, and Carousel Burger Co., replacing Johnny Rockets.

Kennywood Map 2023

In 2023, Kennywood announced and debuted Spinvasion, a new spinning attraction that served as the centerpiece of the newly themed Area 412. The classic Kangaroo ride reopened after a year-long, top-to-bottom refurbishment, featuring a new logo, upgraded lighting, and refreshed colors.

Meanwhile, the Turtle ride, the last operating Tumble Bug of its kind, closed for the remainder of the season to undergo a major restoration project intended to preserve the historic attraction.

In 2023, Kennywood Holiday Lights added a new walk-through experience beside the Jack Rabbit that featured a 20-foot-tall walk-through Christmas tree along with a festive G-scale model train display.

Additionally, the all-new Parkside Café opened during the event, providing guests with a full menu of seasonal food and drink offerings available for the first time.

In 2022, Kennywood closed the iconic Kangaroo ride for the entire season to undergo a complete refurbishment in preparation for its return the following year. The park’s Halloween event was rebranded from Phantom Fright Nights to Phantom Fall Fest, introducing a new seasonal identity.

The classic Paratrooper ride reopened after an offseason refurbishment with 800 feet of new LED lighting, and the Beer Garden was transformed with expanded draft selections, updated seating, televisions, and a live music stage.

In 2020, the annual Kennywood Holiday Lights event was canceled as a direct result of the ongoing pandemic. After a full review of circumstances, park officials announced that the seasonal celebration would not take place for that year.

This marked the suspension of the event, which typically featured large-scale holiday decorations, shows, and themed attractions, and confirmed that Holiday Lights would remain closed throughout the entire 2020 holiday season with no activities or displays offered.

Kennywood Map 2019

In 2019, Kennywood opened Steelers Country, a new football-themed land centered on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The expansion featured the debut of The Steel Curtain roller coaster, which set records as the tallest roller coaster in Pennsylvania, included the world’s tallest inversion at 197 feet, and had the most inversions in North America with nine.

Additional elements included the End Zone Café, a tailgate-themed restaurant and bar, and the Steelers Experience, an indoor interactive attraction with football-themed games and challenges.

In 2018, Kennywood introduced Thomas Town, a new family-friendly themed land that featured five new rides, a live stage show, themed play and entertainment areas, and a retail shop. The park also debuted Thomas & Friends 4-D: Bubbling Boilers in its 4-D Theater as an additional attraction tied to the new area.

At the same time, the park permanently removed the Log Jammer flume ride, which had closed at the end of the previous season.

In 2017, Kennywood reopened the Sky Rocket roller coaster with a brand-new train that featured a Kennywood-themed blue and gold color scheme, updated seats, and new restraints. Additionally, the park introduced The LEGO Movie 4-D Experience at the 4-D Theater to begin the season, expanding its lineup of film-based attractions.

These updates combined a refreshed ride experience with the debut of a new immersive 4-D show as the year’s defining changes.

In 2016, Kennywood reopened the historic Noah’s Ark attraction following an extensive multi-month refurbishment, restoring it with a classic fun house theme that paid homage to its original design.

Alongside this, the park added a new film to its 4-D Theater, Ice Age: No Time for Nuts 4-D, expanding its entertainment lineup with a family-oriented cinematic experience.

In 2015, Kennywood introduced a state-of-the-art 4-D Theater experience as the park’s first new attraction since Black Widow in 2012. This addition marked a major entertainment upgrade by expanding the park’s lineup with immersive cinematic technology.

Alongside this, the park also opened The Ring of Fire San Gria Garden, a new dining and beverage venue located near the ride of the same name, offering sangria, beer, and snacks to complement the existing food and drink options.

In 2012, Kennywood added Black Widow, a new pendulum thrill ride that became the park’s major attraction and the first new ride since the Sky Rocket in 2010. The introduction of Black Widow also coincided with the removal of the Pitt Fall drop tower ride, which was permanently retired at the end of the 2011 season.

In 2011, Kennywood permanently removed the Volcano ride, which was dismantled over the winter and did not return for the season. This closure marked the elimination of one of the park’s existing attractions without the introduction of a new ride to replace it during that year.

Kennywood Map 2010

In 2010, Kennywood debuted Sky Rocket, a new launch roller coaster that became the park’s major new attraction and the first roller coaster addition in ten years. The ride featured linear synchronous motor (LSM) technology to propel trains from the station into a high-speed launch sequence, distinguishing it from the park’s traditional chain-lift coasters.

Sky Rocket’s introduction expanded Kennywood’s thrill ride lineup and marked a significant investment in modern coaster technology for the new season.

In 2009, Kennywood permanently removed the Whip, a classic ride that had operated since 1918, due to maintenance issues. In its place, the park introduced a new high-tech entertainment offering, Kennywood’s Celebration of Light!, a laser show designed as the major addition for the season.

In 2008, Kennywood introduced Ghostwood Estate, a new state-of-the-art interactive dark ride that became the park’s premier addition for the season. The attraction featured modern interactive elements and occupied the site previously used by the Gold Rusher dark ride.

To accommodate the new development, Gold Rusher, which had operated for six seasons, was permanently removed.

In 2007, Kennywood added Cosmic Chaos, a new spinning thrill ride manufactured by Zamperla, Inc., introduced as the park’s major attraction for the season. The ride, classified as a Mega Disk’O, featured a circular platform that spins while traveling along a curved track, offering a distinct ride experience compared to the park’s existing lineup.

Cosmic Chaos represented the primary expansion for Kennywood in 2007, marking the addition of a new large-scale flat ride to its roster.

In 2006, Kennywood introduced SwingShot, a ninety-foot-tall giant swing attraction that launched riders up to 120 feet into the air. The ride became the park’s signature new addition for the season, offering a high-intensity swinging motion supported by large vertical arms.

SwingShot expanded Kennywood’s thrill ride lineup with a modern flat ride installation, representing the most notable change for the year and standing out as the park’s primary investment in new attractions for 2006.

In 2002, Kennywood permanently removed the Ham-on-Rye ride, which had become difficult to maintain and was dismantled before the start of the season. Later that year, the park introduced its inaugural Halloween event, Phantom Fright Nights, which opened in October and operated on Fridays and Saturdays through the month.

In 1990, Kennywood completed a $1.5 million refurbishment of the historic Noah’s Ark attraction, reopening it for the first time since 1969 with a redesigned experience that included a new splashdown boat finale. Additionally, the park introduced the Wonder Cabin, an old-fashioned fun house ride in which the room spins around the guests inside.

In 1975, Kennywood introduced the Log Jammer, a major new flume-style water ride that became the park’s headline addition for the season. The attraction featured a themed waterway with boats carrying guests through a series of drops and splashes, providing a new type of ride experience within the park.

The debut of the Log Jammer represented the defining change for Kennywood that year, expanding its lineup with a large-scale water ride for the first time.

In 1920, Kennywood introduced the Jack Rabbit roller coaster as its major new attraction for the season. Constructed as a wooden out-and-back style coaster, the Jack Rabbit quickly stood out with its use of a double-dip element that gave riders a unique airtime experience for the time.
